Who says an office should have jazzy multi-colored walls, sleepimg pods, and an attached gym, to be a great place to work? It's the people who eventually matter. And if you and your coworkers can take each task and each day with a smile, there's no reason why your workplace won't be the best space to work either!
The Smile Contagion
People simply can't be grumpy if you have a warm smile to greet them. It's simple. Smiling is contagious. It exudes positivity, spreads cheer, and radiates confidence. On a similar note, greet your coworkers everyday on the way to your workstation. Most of us will have had the harsh experience of being replied back with a grunt (or even worse, with a complete lack of acknowledgement). Regardless of this, do your part and say good morning to everyone.
The Smaller Joys of Life
A fee simple gestures can light up the whole atmosphere at your workplace. Bake a set of cookies, bring them over, and share them with your office-mates. Or bring along a few magazines you can share with your friends at work. Go ahead and make coffee for everyone at work. When you get some time off, go over to a struggling coworker and help him/her through. Little habits of this sort trigger reciprocality, raises a sense of collective reponsibility, and can contribute to a caring atmosphere at work.
Slip out of Gossip
It's always great to get together with your mates and chat about stuff in general. But do not get dragged into office gossip. Some say it builds a sense of camaraderie. However, I feel that all office gossip just raises the levels of disgruntlement at the workplace. Instead of snivelling about work, or driveling about your boss's affair, try to take your job positively. It might not be your dream job. But every act, and your very attitude, contributes to a bigger picture. So be at your best.
Do Forget your Job
You can be the most happiest and cheerful person at work. You probably can pull out a laugh from a dead toad, even. However, nothing can be more annoying than a slacker at the workplace. Each peron puts in their best effort at work, and would expect the same from everyone else. If you go around cracking jokes all day, they know they will have to clear up on all the work you've left behind. And now, that's not gonna make them happy, is it?
