Responsibilities
SUMMARY:
The Database Developer is a key member of the web development team, responsible for design, development, implementation and maintenance of all back end processes and procedures that support DHL Global Mail tracking system and customer-facing web applications. Effectively applies analytical problem solving skills to create highly scalable, enterprise-level solutions in a high volume transactional data environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oracle Database development
Development of complex SQL queries, stored procedures, packages, and jobs
Optimization, performance tuning, and monitoring of databases
Troubleshooting and issue resolution
Work in conjunction with other members of the Web Development team to ensure successful implementation and integration of other tiers in multi-tier web-based applications and communicate technical parameters and constraints to relevant teams
Coordinate tasks and participate in the completion of projects to ensure objectives are met in accordance with prescribed priorities and time limitations
Project planning and project management experience a plus
Data modeling and schema design
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, related field of study or relevant work experience.
5+ years of Oracle development experience, preferably supporting java or web systems
REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve complex issues
Extensive knowledge of recent Oracle (10G/11G) database systems
Strong SQL data access skills including demonstrated experience with complex SQL queries
PL/SQL development experience
Performance tuning of SQL
Experience with Oracle UNIX environment
Experience with UNIX Shell scripting
Experience with SQL Loader and Data Pump is a plus
Exposure to table partitioning concepts are a plus
Documentation experience is a plus
